Troubleshooting ‘Global Service Principal ID’ Error in SPFX Deployment

Have you encountered the “Could not retrieve Global Service Principal ID” error when deploying SPFX with Graph API? We recently faced this issue while creating an SPFX solution for working with OneDrive using App registrations and the O-Auth Implicit flow. The error surfaced in our SharePoint Admin Center API Access page.

To resolve this issue, it is important to identify any Azure AD App Registrations that may be causing the error. Follow these steps:

  1. Go to Azure ‘Active Directory’ and navigate to the ‘App Registrations’ section. Search for “SharePoint” to find two related apps.
  2. Open your SharePoint admin page and open the ViewSource by pressing “CTRL+U”. Search for “spfx3rdPartyServicePrincipalId” and copy the associated GUID.
  3. Compare the copied GUID with the two SharePoint-related apps in the Azure App Registrations. Delete the app that does not match the GUID.

If you’re still experiencing the issue even after deleting the app, it is possible that you do not have Global Admin access. Make sure you are a Global Admin rather than just a SharePoint Admin.

If you do not have Global Admin access, reach out to your Global Admin and request their assistance in approving your access.
